Paul Reed Smith joined forces with master amp designer Doug Sewell and collaborated for nearly four years before unveiling the highly anticipated PRS tube amp line in early 2009. The company known for making amazing looking and sounding guitars is quickly gaining a reputation for making high-quality amps as well. Paul Reed Smith seems to be headed in that direction. It’s a rare and difficult task to create guitars and amps of equally high quality, and then to be able to maintain those high standards and good reputation. Perhaps many believe that since their guitars are a big hit, they can easily branch out and manufacture amps that will be just as successful some guitar companies do okay, while others fail miserably. Many guitar manufacturers try their hand at making amplifiers, to varying degrees of success. PRS Mira X, switching pickups.Īll clips recorded with a Shure SM57 into Digidesign Pro Tools. Anybody who is well-versed in the amplifier market today should understand that the topology of an amplifier matters less and less and what’s matters the most is the design itself.Download Example 1 British - Bright on, Volume 5 o'clock, Reverb off, Treble 2 o'clock, Middle 1 o'clock, Bass 4 o'clock, Master 10 o'clock. These amplifiers were never meant to be SQ crowdpleasers however, some of the models are being advertised for their sound quality characteristics, such as their class AB amplifiers, simply because they are playing the class AB card. I would sacrifice some power for better quality overall. Within the D4S price range, I would rather purchase a better performing amplifier in terms of distortion, noise, and frequency response. The reality is that the demographic of customers who purchased them are completely different than those who would purchase a Tru Technology amp. Many of the customers who purchase the D4S amplifiers will swear up and down that they are as good as any other amplifier ever made if not better regardless of the price. I understand in the video he keeps bringing up the price point difference between the two amplifiers. I do hope you can glean something from it though! Customer support after sale will be horrid. Consider well if you are ok giving them money. The 5 channel works just fine as well, but the install its in is not optimized where id frankly notice if it wasnt flawless (not much sound treatment, minimal work dont to seal doors, etc) People with no direct experience parroting nonsense they cant back up. This is the part of the internet I genuinely hate. Not saying others havent had issues performance wise, but i have NOT. I have no noise issues with them or any distortion. The d4s 7 channel does everything i ask of it with no complaints. Honestly, if it wasnt for vanity i wouldnt put the higher end amps back in. I replaced several old school, higher end amps that i pulled out ONLY to restore and reuse. The 5 channel i bought used, and the 7 channel i bought new. On par with any of the other midlevel china/korean amps out today, certainly within their price range. My 2 cents (admittidly biased as i own and use 2 of them). Im open to learning!) A LOT of (id say 95%) the nonsense comes from people whove never used, or even held one. I continuously hear this "they are noisy, they are this, they are that" and ive asked REPEATEDLY for proof, threads showing this, graphs, tests, anything other than "well my buddy heard this and that makes it true" kinda ****, and have YET to get any solid proof.
